No Charges Filed - Federal Grand Jury Investigation
Our client was the cofounder of a publishing company who was subpoenaed to testify in front of a federal grand jury as part of a joint, years-long investigation by both the federal government and multiple state counties. We were able to prevent our client both from ever testifying in front of the grand jury and from being charged. Our client’s codefendant was indicted both federally and by multiple counties after years of investigation. While the codefendant faced 500 years of incarceration and was ultimately sentenced to decades in prison, our work prevented our client from ever being charged. Further, while the codefendant’s name and background were repeatedly exposed in the media, we protected our client’s identity from ever being revealed to the public. At the codefendant’s federal sentencing hearing, we learned that the federal prosecutor told a witness that the government was trying to imprison our client for just as long as the codefendant. Instead, our strategy allowed our client to continue with their career and to care for their family.
International Criminal and Civil Investigation
We represented a client who cofounded both one of the first internet service provider companies and later a telecommunications company as part of international criminal and civil investigation involving INTERPOL, the F.B.I., and various European police agencies. We worked with lawyers from multiple jurisdictions including Miami, New Jersey, England, and Spain and spent years fighting extradition after INTERPOL took our client into custody. While the investigation was active, we worked with attorneys in Europe to protect our clients international business interests.
Not Guilty - Attempted Murder
After a week-long trial, the jury found our client not guilty on all charges in 20 minutes. The evidence included a hand-written, four-page confession that the government claimed our client wrote that included the phrase “I shot him.” The “him” was the accuser who identified our client as the shooter at trial. In addition, the government showed the jury both blood-stained pants with multiple bullet holes that accuser wore on the night of the shooting and ballistic evidence recovered from the crime scene.
Charges Withdrawn - Statutory Rape
We defended our client for over a year until the government withdrew all charges on the morning of trial as the jurors were walking into the courtroom. The accuser initially claimed that our client had sexually assaulted her for two years. As part of our international investigation, we were able to have the accuser meet with us and admit both that she had fabricated all the allegations and why she had done so. Our investigation included interviewing witnesses and obtaining documents from The Caribbean. We interviewed several witnesses from The Caribbean including a witness who shared an apartment there with our client at the time the crimes were alleged to have happened in Philadelphia. We also obtained a copy of our client’s lease for his apartment in Puerto Rico. Despite this exculpatory evidence, the government made a pretrial offer to plead guilty which our client rejected. We continued preparing for trial until the government withdrew all of the charges. Our client was released from jail and returned to live with his wife and two children.
Not Guilty - Aggravated Assault
We obtained the only not guilty verdict in a multiple-defendant trial. Our client was identified at trial as having passed a firearm to a codefendant. Although every other codefendant was convicted, only our client was found not guilty.
Not Guilty - Robbery and Aggravated Assault
We defended our client through two jury trial until he was found not guilty on all charges. At the time, our client was facing a five-year minimum mandatory prison sentence. We successfully argued to have the court dismiss the robbery and aggravated assault charges at the preliminary hearing. At both trial, the police testified that our client was a passenger in an SUV who had a shotgun wedged between his left leg and the center console. After our closing argument, the jury found our client not guilty on all charges.
Charges Withdrawn After Evidence Suppressed - Robbery
Our client was facing a mandatory minimum, five-year prison sentence and a maximum sentence of 47 years. After we filed pretrial motions to suppress physical evidence, pretrial identifications, and trial identifications, the government withdrew all charges on the morning of trial. Our client was released from the courtroom and went home with his parents.
Not Guilty - Aggravated Assault and Conspiracy
We obtained the only not guilty verdict in a multiple defendant trial. All other defendants were found guilty of assaulting the victim who needed to be hospitalized, but our representation resulted in our client being found not guilty.
All Charges Dismissed - Drug Distribution
We represented our client who was facing a fourth felony conviction for drug distribution. After 11 court appearances, we successfully argued to have the case dismissed. Our client left the courtroom with his wife.
Minimized Immigration Consequences - Aggravated Assault and Burglary
We represented an award-winning, international scientist and Ivy League professor who was charged with multiple, separate incidents of burglary and aggravated assault. We worked with the vice-consul from the Russian Consulate in New York City to obtain a result that minimized the immigration consequences for our client who was able to remain in the United States and continue with her scientific and academic career.
All Charges Withdrawn - Drug Distribution and Firearms Possession
We represented our client in a multiple-defendant case where the police found our client in a house with narcotics and multiple firearms next to our client. We researched the backgrounds of the police officers and filed a motion to suppress the evidence found during the execution of a search warrant. After we did so, the government withdrew all the charges on the morning of trial.
All Charges Withdrawn - Aggravated Assault
We represented a medical professional who was charged with felony aggravated assault and was facing a maximum of 20 years in prison and loss of her medical license. The accuser’s injuries were photographed by the police while the accuser was in the hospital. After we prepared for trial, the government withdrew all the criminal charges. Our client continued with her medical career and no adverse consequences for her professional license.
Not Guilty - Sexual Assault
We represented a young man who was accused of a sexual assault that occurred in public. At trial, four witnesses testified either that our client committed the assault or that the accuser reported the assault within minutes. After our closing argument, the jury found our client not guilty of all criminal charges.
Childline Expungement
We represented an active duty sergeant who had been placed on the Childline Registry for 10 year-old allegations of child sexual abuse. As part of our investigation, we interviewed witnesses in Asia who later testified at the appeal hearing. The court sustained our appeal, and our client was removed from the Childline Registry. As a result of our representation, our client was able to continue with his military career.
Not Guilty - Assault
We represented a retired professional who was accused of threatening the accuser with a specific firearm. Because the case was widely covered in regional news, several jurors were dismissed because they had seen the news coverage. The government presented a witness who testified that our client purchased a firearm identical to the one described by the accuser. Also, the police took over 400 pictures of evidence at the crime scene. After we presented our witnesses and closing argument, the jury found our client not guilty on all charges.
No Homicide Charges Filed - Homicide
Our client was the only suspect in a multiple-defendant homicide case who was never charged with homicide and served no jail time. During a years long case, the government repeatedly threatened to charge our client with homicide which could have resulted in our client serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole. All the defendants made recorded statements to law enforcement, but our client was the only one never charged with any felony. We argued multiple pretrial motions over the course of the case, and our client went home to their family.
All Charges Withdrawn - Drug Distribution and Firearms Possession
The government filed the same charges against our client and a codefendant four times. The police executed a search warrant and recovered multiple firearms and narcotics in a house with the accused. Our client was facing over 40 years in prison. Over the course of several hearings, we were able to get the charges first withdrawn, then dismissed, and then finally withdrawn.
All Charges Withdrawn - Drug Distribution
We obtained the only complete withdrawal in a multiple-defendant drug distribution case. The police testified to observing our client sell narcotics directly to a buyer and that they recovered narcotics. We filed a motion to dismiss all charges. Instead of litigating that motion, the government instead withdrew all charges.
All Charges Withdrawn - Burglary
We obtained the only complete withdrawal in a multiple-defendant burglary case where our client was captured on video in the building. After multiple years of litigation and multiple trial dates, we filed a motion to dismiss the charges. Instead of litigating that motion, the government withdrew the case against our client on the morning of trial. Our client was able to continue her profession with no criminal record.
